Tribology @ 50 honoured by the Duke at the Palace

Prince Phillip flanked by Dr Jost, welcomes the honoured guests

9th March 1966 is the date that the now famous “Jost Report” was first published. The UK government of the day had commissioned the report to identify what the state of UK industry was in regard to the application of best practices to eliminate inefficiencies in design caused by the poor management of friction. Friction thus leading to wear and energy losses.

9th March 2016 is the 50th anniversary of that event.

If it were not for a prior engagement with the King of Spain, Tribology would have been celebrating with its patron HRH The Duke of Edinburgh on the exact day, however one week earlier was the nearest available slot in the diary and so on the 2nd of March 2016 we all came together.

This is when some of the worlds leaders in Tribology – the science of lubrication and wear – and thus the management of friction, came to enjoy a reception in the Picture Gallery of Buckingham Palace hosted by HRH Prince Phillip the Duke of Edinburgh.
